I’m pregnant! I’m thinking of working with a midwife, but I am not sure. What do you suggest I do next?

Congratulations! Since you have plenty of time (I'm assuming you are newly pregnant), you should research and interview a few if not more "care providers". Ask around in your community-other moms, other natural health care providers, your local hospital, etc. Come up with a list of questions you have and make appointments to speak with local providers. After you have interviewed a doctor or two, and a few midwives, you will have a better sense of what you need and desire and possibly who and where you will feel the most comfortable giving birth with. Most care providers wait until 8, 10 or sometimes 12 weeks until they will schedule your first appointment.
For names of homebirth midwives, you can request a local listing from NARM at http://www.narm.org
Depending on the state in which you live, midwives may or may not advertise.
Best of luck!!
