Brilliant article! I tried all of these treatments for my pesky week-late little girl, and though she didn't arrive on MY timeline, once labor started, it was quick and easy. Turns out, now 3 years old, she's still a slowpoke. :)

My favorite treatment was acupuncture and kenesiology, because if baby's not in the right position to stimulate labor, things will take longer. With my first baby, I had no idea he was in a side-lying position which made labor, once it started, long and difficult, so when my midwife told me baby 2 was in the side-lying position at 39 1/2 weeks, and that might be the reason I wasn't marching toward labor, I called the acupuncturist. 2 treatments later, I felt the baby turn and 1 week after that, SUCCESS!

Maryn, I LOVE your advice, thanks so much and keep up the great work. When it comes to child birth, you're the one I always turn to. Keep it up!

Great article! I'd love to hear more about what your "legal boundaries" are in regards to the "magical" 42 week mark? Who sets these boundaries? What information is being used to reach these conclusions (such as, performing labor inducing actions around this time when everything else seems to be progressing normally and healthily)? If we know better than to induce a normal pregnancy, why is your legal obligation to do so? I'm curious. Thanks! :)

Great article! I'd love to hear a licensed midwife/certified midwife practitioner, or the like--- go into more detail about your "legal boundaries" as you call them, in regards to the magical 42 week mark. Where do these boundaries come from? Who sets them? and, How can we- as mother's, help to make these boundaries more realistic to normal, natural birth?
