Study Dr. Weston Price's 60 year old book, "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" (search it, it's online for free) ad you will notice that preparation for pregnancy involves getting the body ready with natural foods..indeed, BUT, it is ABSOLUTELY essential that a woman with child (and before child) consume larger amounts of essential fatty acids from animal sources. healthy i.e. for red meat, pastured and grass fed animals and not the corporate corn fed cattle. Organ meats are a must. How do you expect to absorb essential and crucial minerals without animal fatty acids!! This "lots of fruits and vegetables is a myth. Many healthy pregnancies were had in times past (as recently as the 1950s)..during winters in the north when there were no fresh fruits and few vegetables available out of season. Keep in mind what Price, as a dentists stressed as he cured degenerative diseases with raw milk and spring butter from grass fed cattle. That is..traditionally fed isolated peoples did not have under developed dental arches and beautiful straight teeth. Those same people..often in the same family who were trading with the west and consuming canned foods, sugar, jams, breads etc., had children which today would be in serious need of braces and other orthodontic work. Then of course, there's the demonization of lard by the vegetable oil lobby that continues to this day when polyunsaturated vegetable oil (homocysteine elevators), along with sucrose/fructose are a main source of arterial inflammation!

Is your child in need of braces, eventually? Look at your diet while you were pregnant. The photographs alone in Price's book tell much of the story, if you think your reading list is too large already. I re-calcified and ended tooth decay on two wisdom teeth with the consumption of raw milk from grass fed cows. My dentist as astounded as she could no longer see a problem on the x-rays. Suggest also "Cure Tooth Decay," by Ramiel Nagel. It worked of me: (http://www.curetoothdecay.com/). Standby, the cure to remineralize is animal sourced fats as humans were intended to consume per the anthropological and archeological record!!

I wish your article was a little more balanced for your meat, egg, and dairy consuming readers! For those of you who, like me, believe in a traditional foods diet that incorporates plenty of healthy animal fats and proteins, visit nourishedkitchen.com or foodrenegade.com for amazing recipes and information.

Also, a warning against placing too much weight on The China Study... as far as I knew that has been well and truly debunked.
