I remember when I first seriously considered getting pregnant. I was one of those women that thought I would never want any kids, but one day, that suddenly changed! I don’t really know what caused the sudden shift, but once I considered it (and talked it over with my husband) I was sure that it was the right time. I also realized that there was a lot to know about getting pregnant! Reading “Taking Charge of Your Fertility” was my bible (and actually it still is, 5 babies later, both to problem solve and now prevent pregnancy). I was obsessed with what I learned, fascinated by the signs our bodies give us, and how both simple and difficult trying to conceive could be!

Having been on “the pill” for a few years, I didn’t quite know what to expect. I was starting to understand the primary signs of ovulation, the charting, the basal body temperature etc. but because I was so new to it all, I didn’t have anything to compare it to (not to mention that being off birth control was a new experience for my body!). So, I started keeping track, from the very first day and decided that this would be a “trial” month. I would use this month, at least, to get a baseline reading for my body, not having an ovulation calendar and not knowing what my norm was for temperature or even ovulation day, for example. I read and charted, charted and read and noticed that things were looking pretty textbook. (Get more information on how you can be you own ovulation calculator) At about cycle day 22 or so, I remember seeing just a spot of pink on the toilet paper…literally, just a spot! Something only an obsessed fertility tracker would notice! Hmmm, I thought…that’s interesting.

The days ticked on and I awaited getting my first period off the pill, my first “real” period in years! Nothing. Hmm..well, I didn’t know what getting pregnant felt like, and I didn’t really think this was it. I remember just feeling a distinct heaviness in my pelvis, no pain but enough to make me question if I had a urinary tract infection or something. I think I even went to get that checked out, and I laugh now at how even the doctor didn’t ask me about pregnancy or even take a test. Well, I started to get more and more suspicious as the days went on. It was a Sunday morning, and my husband was working all day like he normally did. Putting myself to the challenge of holding my pee a few hours to get an accurate test, I walked across the street to the drugstore and was giddy (and nervous!) to buy my first pregnancy test.

Held the pee a little more. Took the test, and voila…pregnant!! Wow. Called my husband, immediately followed by my sister and was beyond excited! I remember feeling so blessed that it was so easy; although I truly believe that having the fertility information was a true asset. In fact, the next 4 of my pregnancies all happened on the “first try”; a gift I thank the Universe for!

If you’re having challenges trying to conceive, I’d recommend you look at this valuable resource and start taking charge of your fertility.
