Birth art is a beautiful way to help capture the miracle of birth. Whether the art is a painting depicting a pregnant mama or a real photograph of a newborn child, the images of birth can help communicate just how profound the whole experience really is.
With my last two children, I hired photographers to take “real” pictures (somehow the ones we take at home just aren’t the same!) so that I could capture just how special they are at that stage of life.
The picture on the right side of this page is an example of birth art I had commissioned by artist Juan Alberto Segura. In addition to this painting, he also did one more for me. I sent him a picture of me tandem nursing two of my little ones and he turned it into a very beautiful painting. If I can find a digital version of it, I’ll post it here.

The birth art above is by Damien Leggett who has created an entire series of work that is truly amazing. I remember the first time I came across his art online, I sat down and wrote to him because I thought it was so beautiful. The pieces he creates communicate so much of the beauty that is birth and I am very thankful that I discovered his work.
One additional type of art I did after my 2nd son’s birth was a placenta print. That’s where you take the placenta and set it on top of a piece of paper. The “print” that the placenta makes on the paper becomes the art, which you can frame. For me, it’s a very special keepsake from his birth.
