It used to be 10lbs now its 9lbs. It's based on the doctors fear of not being able to handle a little shoulder dystocia because they are not taught the Gaskin Maneuver. They are paranoid about being sued and most of the things they do in a hospital birth is based on CYA "cover your ass". This is true in all medicine in America. As an RN I know this and have seen it many times in my 20 year career. AS a medical professional I strongly encourage anyone who really wants a natural birth to find a good midwife and stay HOME!
